This lake is one of the most beautiful volcanic lake in Indonesia, this is the largest lake in Southeast Asia (around 1130-1145 km2) and deepest lake in the world (with a depth about 450m). Lake Toba was formed by the eruption of a super volcano (Mount Toba) which occurred thousands years ago (about 73,000 - 77,000 years ago). The eruption is thousands of times more powerful than ordinary volcanic eruptions and affect the world climate globally.

The lake is more like the ocean, with an island in the middle called Samosir Island. There are two small lakes in Samosir Island, Aek Natonang Lake and Sidihoni Lake.

The island which has an area almost as large as the state of Singapore is not an empty island, it's becoming residence of Batak Toba/Samosir Community (one of the tribes of northern Sumatra).

There are two villages frequented by tourists on the Samosir island, Tomok Village and Tuk Tuk illage. Tomok is the village which has many interesting attractions for tourists like the tomb of King Sidabutar (aged about 500 years), Museum of Batak and the popular dancing puppet, Sigale-Gale.

Parapat, one of Lake Toba Tourism that is famous for a large number of tourists visit. Because this place has always been a primary choice to begin the journey to Samosir Island using the ferry.

Many exciting activities here, the most popular is water activities tourism. such as swimming, playing a jet ski, ride a motorboat, cano, banana boat or just fishing, even provided for those who want to play golf.

There is a historic house here, a house that was once a place of exile for the first president of Indonesia Ir. Soekarno. The place where Ir. Soekarno was exiled by the Dutch in 1948, along with several national figures such as Sutan Sjahrir and Agus Salim.

At Lake Toba there is a festival that is always held once a year. Organized by the regional government of North Sumatra in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The event was held between August - September.
